Final conference of the KEY project

The final conference of the KEY (Keep educating yourselves) is held at Preschool Teachers Training College in Novi Sad.

The conference was attended by representatives of all partner institutions, as well as representatives of: the Ministry of Education, the Novi Sad school administration; PU “Joyful Childhood”; private PU; Pedagogical Society of Vojvodina and the media.

All present were greeted by Svetlana Radović, Ph.D., assistant director of VSNS, Vesna Radulović, educational advisor, Ministry of Education – Novi Sad school administration, and Jovanka Ulić, M.Sc., project coordinator.

Through a PowerPoint presentation, the representatives of all partner institutions informed the attendees about the general and specific goals of the KEY project, as well as the implemented activities according to the work packages.

The work package products are:

– Publication “Comparative analysis of professional training in partner countries”;

– Realised workshop on the development of lifelong learning centers in Vršac;

– As a starting point for designing professional development seminars, research was carried out (2019) for the purpose of analyzing the needs of the target group, i.e. educators from Serbia and Montenegro

(N = 1466) in the following categories: Conceptual settings The basis of the PVO program; direct work with children; developing collaboration and learning communities; developing professional practice. The questionnaire was the starting point for the design of the professional development program for PU employees in which higher education institutions participated in the ZUOV competition for program accreditation;

– Established Lifelong Learning Centers at all higher education institutions in Serbia and Montenegro;

– Centers equipped with the most modern equipment;

– Held Moodle courses for 24 teachers from 6 partner HEIs who improved their knowledge and skills in using the Moodle platform and creating Moodle courses for teaching and training purposes;

– 39 professional training programs were accredited (Serbia 33 – ZUOV, new cycle of accreditation and 6 Faculty of Pedagogy in Nikšić);

– Held more than 30 seminars/programs for the professional training of criers and professional associates with more than 800 participants;

– Two workshops were held on the innovative approach in the work of Centers for Lifelong Learning: Liberating Structures, Theories of Change;

– Designed and implemented project quality monitoring methodology;

– 5 publications: “Comparative analysis of professional development of educators in partner countries”; “Manual for quality, observation and evaluation of continuous professional development of educators”; “Individual guide to KPRV – tool kit for preschool teachers”; “Models of KPRV accreditation standards”; “Guide to accredited programs at Lifelong Learning Centers”.

The KEY (Keep educating yourselves) project is an Erasmus + project in the field of strengthening cooperation between Higher Education Institutions and the wider economic and social environment.

The project started in November 2018, and due to the COVID19 pandemic, it was extended by one year, i.e. until November 2022.

Within the KEY (Keep educating yourselves) project, one more publication was created.

The self-guide is intended for all professors from field of preschool education and education who wants to have daily and continuous professional development.

Teacher training centers were established at higher education institutions for preschool teacher training in Pirot, Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica, Vršac and Podgorica.

This gives teachers access to computer, audio-visual and educational equipment, and this guide actually shows how these centers were formed and how much they contributed to teacher training.

Meeting in Nikšić

As part of the activities of the international project KEY in Nikšić in the period from 10.10.2022. until 12.10.2022. a meeting of project partners was held.
After opening the meeting and familiarizing the attendees with the agenda, the realization of planned activities in the past period was presented.
The participants discussed the product of this work package and the values of the publication “Analysis of continuous professional development of vaspics in Serbia, Montenegro, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia and Great Britain”.
In the second part of the first working day, a presentation was made of the state of project implementation in all partner institutions. It is a demanding development package and all partner institutions in Serbia and Montenegro implemented the plan, with great support from partner institutions from Timisoara, Baja, Maribor and Birmingham. The working meeting on the second day started with the presentation of the work done in the third work package. As part of the third work package, training was carried out for the application of the Moodle course, the creation of a training program and materials and program accreditation were planned. All partner institutions implemented their tasks to the greatest extent possible, which resulted in the accreditation of a large number of teacher training programs.
Within the framework of the fourth work package, the competences of the teaching staff in the field of providing training in the framework of quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation of the continuous professional development of educators were improved, a detailed manual for quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation and proposed measures for improving the competencies of educators were developed.
Within the framework of the fifth work package, a model of accreditation standards was developed within the framework of the continuous professional development of educators,
planned strengthening of educators’ competencies in the area of policy making and advocacy. As part of the sixth work package, activities related to quality assurance of project implementation and results were carried out, evaluation reports and the auditor’s report were prepared, the process of public procurement of bids for the auditor was completed; planned consultative meetings with representatives of the Advisory Board for quality assurance, internal evaluation of progress and external evaluation.
Within the seventh work package, which deals with dissemination, the project website was launched and internal institutional dissemination, promotion through the media, and planned dissemination of project
results. As part of the eighth work package, a kick-off meeting was held, project teams were constituted, rules and procedures were harmonized, partnership agreements were signed, improved
competencies of the project management teams and administrative staff, realized meetings of the Management Board, ensured timely administration and reporting in the project.
On the basis of the realized meeting and the commitment of the participants to the analysis of the realized activities in the project, it was concluded that there is an extremely high degree of satisfaction of the participants with the results achieved on the project.

Meeting in Pirot

As part of the activities of the international project KEY, a two-day meeting was held in Pirot on September 29 and 30, 2022, according to the project partners’ work packages.10
After the welcoming speeches, the implementation of the courses in the local communities of the partners involved in the project was presented, an overview of the publication Policy paper on preschool CPD (Continuing Professional Development) was given, and the activities to date were determined and further steps planned for the creation of manuals for observation and evaluation of CPD- as well as an independent guide for the continuous professional development of educators. In addition to the above, the progress of research on the impact of Covid-19 on teaching and educational work was evaluated, the dissemination of project results was discussed, as well as the upcoming meeting in Nikšić (Montenegro).

One more project KEY publication

“Policy making and avocacy in education” is new publication within the KEY project. It was prepared by Slavica Komatina and Marko Stojanović in cooperation with colleagues from Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro.

This publication shows how  the quality of preschool education in Romania is ensued, the making and advocacy of policies in Montenegro, the role of the Institute for the Improvement of Education and Upbringing in Serbia, as well as an overview of actors and public policies in the field of education.

Along with this manual, a set of training materials in the field of public policy creation and advocacy has been prepared, which can be used as an additional resource for improving one’s own skills necessary for active participation in public policy creation processes.

Meeting of project partners in Novi Sad

In accordance with the project tasks, a two-day working meeting of project partners of the KEY projectNS sep 2022 was organized in Novi Sad. The meeting was organized to summarize the project results so far and as a preparation for the Final Conference in Novi Sad.
Representatives of all partner institutions are familiar with the completed and planned activities within the work packages of the project.
It was agreed that all higher education institutions should submit the list of accredited programs by the end of the week, in order to prepare the final version for printing. All materials required for the creation of the QA manual – observation and evaluation of CPD, as well as the CPD Self-Guide (Educator’s Toolkit) will be delivered by mid-September in order to finalize the preparation and printing of the manual.
On the second day of the meeting, each partner presented to the attendees the previous analysis of progress in their institution for the purpose of improving management and making adequate decisions within the project. In addition to the discussion on the dissemination of project results, the maintenance of planned and accredited trainings for the professional development of educators was also discussed.20220905_145440 Representatives of project partner WEBIN introduced the Questionnaires for the preparation of impact reports to those present

The meeting of the project partners ended with the meeting of the management board at the end of the second day.

Study visit – Birmingham City University, United Kingdom

As part of the international project KEY (Keep Educating Yourself), in the period from June 13, 2022 tovb June 15, 2022, a study visit to the University of Birmingham in Great Britain (Birmingham City University, United Kingdom) was realized. The hosts and organizers of the visit were representatives of the project partner from Great Britain – prof. Dr Geraldine Lee-Treweek and lecturer Kevin Hoffin from Birmingham University. The first day of the visit was realized in the premises of the student campus and was aimed primarily at presenting the activities of the University of Birmingham, as well as summarizing the activities realized so far within the project. Afterwards, the participants of the study visit had the opportunity to visit the Think Tank, a scientific museum within the campus and learn about the results of work and research carried out by several centers in the field of early development (CREC – Center for Research in Early Childhood, EECERA – European Early Childhood Research Association ), as well as the Early Years Career Progression Pathways (EYCPP) project. The second day of the visit started with a visit to the kindergarten within the charity organization Ladywood family center. On the same day, a Round Table Future Proofing Skills for Professionals Working with Children was organized, dedicated, among other things, to reflections on strengthening the transferable skills of educators, at which professors from Birmingham University spoke, as well as representatives of various organizations that work with preschool children (the event was possible also follow online). On the third, equally intense day of the study visit, the participants had the opportunity to take part in work package 4 (WP4) in two workshops dedicated to improving the continuous professional development of educators (we talked about the characteristics of the training providers, as well as the Theory of Change, and in the context of the preparation and evaluation of activities aimed at professional development). A team has been constructed to produce the publication in this work package, and an online meeting regarding its content and form is expected in the coming period. This meaningful study visit, which took place in a pleasant working atmosphere, and was enriched by socializing during the festive dinner and tours of this second largest city in Great Britain, concluded with a visit to the open-air museum (Black Country Living Museum), as well as an agreement on further international project activities.

At the University of Baja (Hungary) – College of Teachers, in the period 16-18. In November 2021, a meeting of project partners of the KEY project was held.
dr. Jovanka Ulić informed the partner institutions about the activities carried out on the project in the previous period. It was emphasized that all activities within WP1 have been completed. One of the activities foreseen by the project, which is the accreditation of the seminar for the professional development of educators, had to be postponed considering that the competition for the accreditation of the seminar has not been announced until this moment. In the coming period, emphasis will be placed on the implementation of already accredited seminars, in cooperation with communities – associations of educators.
The next day, 17.11.2021. In 2008, a scientific meeting was held under the name: Science: compass for aBaja 2 livable future, in which lecturers from several countries took part, and those present were introduced to the current events and problems faced by various European educational areas, with a special emphasis on the topic of lifelong learning and creation competence and creation of a motivating space for continuous and comprehensive training.
As part of the activities held in Baja, a plan for subsequent visits within the KEY project was proposed, depending on the epidemiological situation.

Meeting in Rakičan

On Thursday, October 21, 2021 and Friday, October 22, 2021, a further seminar was held at the RISRIS_Oktobar_2021_2 Dvorec Rakičan in Rakičan on the case of good practice and strengthening relations between project partners.
First, the Youth Center RISKO was presented, which is an organizational unit of the Public Institution RIS Dvorec Rakičan, founded by the Municipality of Murska Sobota and co-founded by the Association for Technical Culture of Slovenia. The purpose of the RISKO Youth Center is to improve the level of key competencies and skills of young people, including young people with fewer opportunities, and to encourage their active participation in society. Therefore, they pay special attention to intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and youth solidarity. This was followed by the presentation of international conferences that are traditionally organized by RIS Dvorec Rakičan. An invitation was sent for cooperation and participation in conferences.
On the second day, participants focused on the dissemination and possibilities of using the good practice examples presented the day before. Thus, they presented their views and asked additional questions that arose about the programs implemented by RIS Dvorec Rakičan. A real debate developed about what are the examples of good practice, how can I use them in my work and what are the opportunities for improvement. With the implementation of similar programs and good mutual cooperation, all project partners can further develop their competences and fix possible shortcomings.
The meeting ended with concrete proposals for the continuation of the successful implementation of the project.

On Thursday, October 21, 2021 and Friday, October 22, 2021, a further seminar was held at the RISRIS_Oktobar_2021_2 Dvorec Rakičan in Rakičan on the case of good practice and strengthening relations between project partners.
First, the Youth Center RISKO was presented, which is an organizational unit of the Public Institution RIS Dvorec Rakičan, founded by the Municipality of Murska Sobota and co-founded by the Association for Technical Culture of Slovenia. The purpose of the RISKO Youth Center is to improve the level of key competencies and skills of young people, including young people with fewer opportunities, and to encourage their active participation in society. Therefore, they pay special attention to intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and youth solidarity. This was followed by the presentation of international conferences that are traditionally organized by RIS Dvorec Rakičan. An invitation was sent for cooperation and participation in conferences.
On the second day, participants focused on the dissemination and possibilities of using the good practice examples presented the day before. Thus, they presented their views and asked additional questions that arose about the programs implemented by RIS Dvorec Rakičan. A real debate developed about what are the examples of good practice, how can I use them in my work and what are the opportunities for improvement. With the implementation of similar programs and good mutual cooperation, all project partners can further develop their competences and fix possible shortcomings.
The meeting ended with concrete proposals for the continuation of the successful implementation of the project.

Seminar on strengthening the role of HEIs in ECEC CPD was held from October 18 to 20, 2021 at the Faculty of Education of the University of Maribor.

At the seminar, the development of new educational programs was presented in detail, and the representative of the Center for Pedagogical Education briefly presented the center’s basic activities, presented the planning, development and approval of new study programs, as well as the preparation and implementation of the career development program (PPU program). All those present were familiar with all the necessary documentation (application forms, online information, certificates for participants, certificates for performers…), and they also actively demonstrated the operation of the KATIS system.

On Tuesday, October 19, 2021, all seminar participants took part in lectures and workshops prepared by the expert workers of the Šentilj kindergarten, Ksenija Breg and Petra Kašman Jelenko. In the first part, the emphasis was on the organization, realization and evaluation of seminars and other trainings for professional workers, with a special emphasis on the closing time of kindergartens due to epidemiological conditions. In the second part, the emphasis was on cooperation with parents and children during the closing of the kindergarten. During the day and all the activities, a special accent and interviews were related to improving the competencies of educators and other experts in order to deal more effectively and adequately with crisis situations in the field of cooperation and continuous professional development.

On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, we continued with interviews related to improving the competencies of educators and other experts in order to more effectively and adequately deal with crisis situations in the field of cooperation and continuous professional development, as well as the preparation and implementation of various educational programs as both live and remotely (in a networked environment). At the same time, it was especially emphasized that it is crucial to maintain quality and ensure constant contact with all interested parties.
